Tax Optimization Through Car Leasing

Company financial management is a daily practice that I'm involved in as a tax advisor. For years I've been helping clients optimize their tax burdens and financial decisions. Recently, I faced the choice of leasing the right car for my company. Today, I'll share with you my thought process, which might help you in similar situations.

What does the total cost of leasing include?

First, let's consider what is the total cost of leasing. It includes not only installments, but also the initial payment and VAT. Before we sign, we need to be sure that all costs are included in the calculations.

Key questions before signing the agreement

Company reputation is another important matter. Checking other clients' reviews, service quality, or even the company's history can tell us a lot. This gives us additional assurance that our choice is the right one.

Flexibility and contract terms also matter. What if I want to terminate the contract early? How are the regulations regarding servicing matters? It's worth knowing the answers to these and other questions before committing to any agreement.

Tax Benefits of Car Leasing: Deductions and Optimization

One also cannot forget about tax benefits associated with car leasing. What costs can you deduct when opting for such an option? I also address this issue in my book "Lower Taxes - Legally", where I thoroughly discuss various tax optimization strategies.

What additional factors should be considered when choosing a car?

Non-financial factors are just as important as the costs themselves, and should be included in a comprehensive analysis of the car leasing decision for a company.

Opportunity Cost – time is money, and every minute lost on the wrong car choice is time, which could be allocated to business development. Imagine a situation where the chosen car frequently breaks down and requires frequent service visits. Each such visit is not only a financial cost, but also time that I could have spent meeting clients or developing the company's strategy.

Customer Service – good service and customer support are a priority for me. Sometimes, an attractive leasing offer can turn out to be just bait, and later it becomes clear that customer service leaves much to be desired. Poor communication, a lack of clear complaint procedures, or delays in contract fulfillment can generate unnecessary stress and complications.

Assurance and Peace of Mind – it's also important for me that the leasing agreement is as comprehensive as possible and includes services such as Full Maintenance, Tyre Services or AA Recovery. Knowing that if my car breaks down, I won't have to worry about its repair and that it will be handled professionally, gives me confidence and allows me to focus on my business.
